Edson Pongolola is the Director of Planning and Management Control at Sonangol E.P., where he supports the company’s corporate planning, management control and strategic development, contributing to its operational priorities and long-term growth objectives.

With more than 14 years of experience in the oil and gas sector, Mr Pongolola has worked across finance, planning, management control and corporate transformation. He began his career as a Business Analyst at Sonangol Refinaria de Luanda from 2010 to 2013, working in financial analysis and decision-making support.

From 2013 to 2019, he served as Head of Planning and Management Control at Academia Sonangol, contributing to the optimisation of its management processes. He subsequently held the same position at Sonangol Refinação, S.A. from 2019 to 2020. During this period, he also served as Head of the Sonangol Restructuring Programme, supporting corporate reforms aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and competitiveness.

In his current role, Mr Pongolola contributes to Sonangol’s planning and strategic management processes and to discussions on Angola’s energy sector, economic transformation and the role of the oil and gas industry in national development. He has also been involved in initiatives supporting entrepreneurship and youth development, including Sonangol’s SonaJovem programme.

Mr Pongolola’s academic background spans accounting and auditing, finance and management. He also holds a master’s degree in Energy Economics and Management. Alongside his corporate career, he spent four years as a university lecturer, sharing his knowledge of finance, management, macro and microeconomics, mathematics and strategic planning.
