Katrin Puetz

Founder & MD (B)energy

Katrin Puetz holds a B.Sc. in Ecological Impact Assessment from the University of Koblenz and an M.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Hohenheim. After three years of collaborative research and development with Addis Ababa University, she founded (B)energy in 2014, establishing a local manufacturing business in Ethiopia. Today, (B)energy operates as an international biogas company based in Germany, with independent distribution hubs across 13 African countries and additional locations in Europe.

Katrin has developed several patented and IP-protected biogas appliances, including the biogas backpack, a modular biogas burner, and the biogas mitad for Ethiopia. With her unique background as a cabinet maker, environmental scientist, and agricultural engineer, she brings a wealth of experience from five continents. Notably, she is the only foreign entrepreneur in the African biogas sector operating without aid funding.

Through (B)energy, Katrin has introduced household biogas technology to Germany and Europe and is recognized as an award-winning pioneer in the field. As a leader in "aid-free business," she advocates for transitioning from traditional development aid to business relationships with Africa.
