Born and educated in Senegal, Mamadou Abib Diop began his academic journey at the École Supérieure Polytechnique (ESP) in Dakar, where he earned a University Diploma in Technology (DUT) in Chemical Engineering in 2002. Driven by a passion for excellence, he pursued further studies in France and Switzerland, eventually obtaining a Master’s degree in Process Engineering from Claude Bernard University in Lyon and a specialization in the “Ingénieur Entreprendre” program at INSA Lyon (now FEE Lyontech). He later enhanced his education with an executive certificate in strategy and a corporate finance certificate from HEC Paris, before embarking on an Executive Doctorate in Business Administration in Geneva. His professional career spans over fifteen years in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, working with leading companies such as Dow Chemical, Solvay, and Biogen in France and Switzerland. Though trained as an engineer, Diop is a visionary manager who has led major investment projects, strengthened operational reliability, and boosted plant competitiveness—all while managing multidisciplinary teams. Armed with this international experience, Mamadou Abib Diop returned to serve his home country by taking on the role of CEO of the Société Africaine de Raffinage (SAR). At the helm of this strategic enterprise—which generates approximately one trillion CFA francs in revenue (making it Senegal’s top company by turnover) and supplies over 80% of the nation’s fuel needs—he stands as a cornerstone of Senegal’s energy sovereignty. Under his leadership, SAR is evolving into a modern and competitive player, actively engaged in transformative projects such as the construction of a second integrated refinery and the development of the petrochemical sector, paving the way for true energy and industrial autonomy.
