African Energy Week (AEW) 2026 will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, welcoming delegates from across Africa and around the world. To ensure a seamless travel experience, all international attendees are advised to carefully review the visa and entry requirements outlined below.
Important Visa Notice
South Africa does not issue visas on arrival. All travellers who require a visa must obtain one before departure. Airlines are legally obligated to verify that passengers hold valid visas prior to boarding, and entry will be denied if documentation is incomplete.
Visa regulations are determined by the South African government and may vary depending on nationality. Requirements are also subject to change without notice.
All delegates are strongly encouraged to contact their nearest South African Embassy, High Commission or Consulate well in advance of travel to confirm the most up-to-date visa requirements applicable to them.
Who Needs a Visa?
Some nationalities are visa-exempt for short stays, while others must apply for a visa prior to travel. Whether you require a visa depends on:
-
Your passport nationality
-
The purpose of your visit (conference attendance, business meetings, exhibitions)
-
The length of your stay
Your local South African diplomatic mission is the only authority that can confirm whether a visa is required and which visa category is applicable.
Types of Visas
Most AEW delegates will require a Short-Stay Visitor’s Visa to attend the conference, meetings, exhibitions and networking events associated with African Energy Week.
Your local South African Embassy or Consulate will advise on:
-
The correct visa category
-
Required supporting documents
-
Application timelines and fees
Steps to secure your visa for AEW 2026
All attendees must be officially registered for AEW 2026.
-
Registration can be completed via the AEW website.
-
Once registration is confirmed, eligible delegates may request an official Visa Invitation Letter.
Please note: A visa invitation letter supports your application but does not guarantee visa approval. Final decisions rest solely with South African immigration authorities.
After completing registration:
-
Delegates may submit a request for a Visa Invitation Letter through the AEW registration system.
-
The letter will confirm your participation in African Energy Week 2026 and outline the nature of the event.
For government officials, ministry representatives, accredited media, sponsors and exhibitors, the AEW team will provide direct guidance and tailored support regarding visa documentation.
While requirements may differ by country, most applicants will be asked to provide the following:
-
A valid passport or travel document valid for the duration of your stay
-
At least one blank passport page for entry endorsements
-
A valid visa, where required
-
Proof of sufficient financial means to cover accommodation, meals and other expenses during your stay
-
A confirmed return or onward travel ticket
-
Proof of accommodation in South Africa (hotel booking or invitation)
-
A Yellow Fever Certificate, if travelling from or transiting through countries within the yellow fever risk zone of Africa or South America
It is recommended that visa applications be submitted as early as possible, as processing times may vary.
Travel Health & Entry Requirements
-
Ensure your passport is in good condition and meets validity requirements.
-
Carry copies of key documents (passport, visa, invitation letter) during travel.
-
If applicable, keep your Yellow Fever Certificate readily accessible for inspection upon entry.
