Unlocking Cameroon’s Emerging Oil & Gas Investment Frontier
Cameroon’s upstream oil and gas sector is entering a renewed phase of exploration, appraisal and investment. The country’s latest licensing round opened five blocks to negotiations, with Murphy West Africa selected for Etinde Exploration, Tilapia, Elombo and Ntem in the Douala/Kribi-Campo Basin, and Octavia Energy Corporation for Bolongo Exploration in the Rio del Rey Basin. At the same time, new exploration and appraisal activity is strengthening the resource base: recent work by Perenco and SNH at Kita and Bokwango identified more than 30 million barrels of oil and over 40 billion cubic feet of gas, while drilling at the Lungahe prospect in the Bomana permit has identified an estimated 55 billion cubic feet of gas in place.
Together with continued work toward development of the cross-border Yoyo–Yolanda gas resources, these developments point to a new upstream investment cycle focused on converting discoveries into production, attracting new operators and capital, extending the life of mature assets and unlocking Cameroon’s significant undeveloped gas potential.
