The Council for Geoscience (CGS) is a South African national science council and the legal successor to the Geological Survey of South Africa. Established in 1912 and formalized by the Geoscience Act (No. 100 of 1993), the CGS is mandated to generate, curate, and disseminate geoscience knowledge and services to the public and industry.
