AEW 2025 to Spotlight Angolan Investment Prospects Amid Golden Jubilee Celebration
African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies 2025 – taking place September 29 to October 1 – will spotlight emerging investment opportunities across Angola’s oil and gas market, with a series of panel discussions and Angolan-led presentations detailing projects, reforms and upcoming prospects. Angola is also a Lead Sponsor of AEW: Invest in African Energies 2025. Powered by Angola’s upstream regulator the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) and national oil company Sonangol, the sponsorship reflects the country’s drive to usher in a new era of hydrocarbon-led development. The sponsorship also comes as Angola celebrates 50 years of independence in 2025, providing a key moment of both reflection and renewed investment in the country’s oil and gas industry.
Backed by a six-year licensing strategy and strengthened fiscal policies, Angola is witnessing a surge in capital expenditure, with $60 billion in spending anticipated for the coming five years. With a goal to sustain production above one million barrels per day (bpd), the country is incentivizing companies to expand their portfolios through the introduction of flexible investment structures. Beyond the multi-year licensing round, Angola offers several blocks through direct negotiation as well marginal and onshore field opportunities. These have created a diverse landscape for companies seeking to expand their presence in the market as well as firms pursuing forays into one of Africa’s biggest oil producing markets. Policies such as the Incremental Production Initiative and the Gas Master Plan have furthered strengthened the attractiveness of doing business in Angola, consolidating the country’s position as a leading investment destination for oil and gas companies.
As Angola prepares to launch its 2025 licensing round, the country’s ANPG is promoting investment across a variety of exploration assets in Angola. The upcoming round will offer ten blocks for exploration in the Kwanza and Benguela basins, both of which are proven petroleum provinces with significant upside potential. The ANPG is expected to provide insight into the upcoming round during a Fireside Chat, taking place one Wednesday October 1 during the AEW Townhall.
AEW: Invest in African Energies 2025 will host a dedicated Invest in: Angola Roundtable, titled Navigating Investment Opportunities and Challenges in Angola’s Offshore Oil & Gas Sector. Sponsored by the ANPG, Sonangol and international energy company Azule Energy, the session will offer strategic insight into the country’s investment climate, detailing upcoming opportunities in exploration, production and infrastructure development. Participating speakers include Adriano Monghini, CEO, Azule Energy; Martin Deffontaines, Country Manager - Angola, TotalEnergies; Katrina Fisher, Country Manager - Angola, ExxonMobil; and Chris Drage, Vice President Eastern Hemisphere, TGS, as well as representatives from Chevron, Cabship and SLB.
The ANPG and Sonangol are also sponsoring an Angola-focused panel discussion on natural gas. While the country’s offshore sector has been largely dominated by oil, forays into non-associated gas development have created a unique opportunity for exploration and production companies. The New Gas Consortium is preparing to start operations at the country’s first non-associated gas project – featuring the Quiluma and Maboqueiro fields – in late-2025. The project will lay the foundation for a new era of non-associated production at a time when Angola relies heavily on associated gas to fuel its Angola LNG facility. In 2025, Angola also made a gas discovery at Block 1/14, further augmenting the potential of its offshore gas market. The panel discussion will unpack commercial opportunities across the gas sector. Speakers include Jorge de Morais, General Manager, KAESO Energy Services, Edson Dos Santos, CEO, Etu Energias and Ian Cloke, COO, Afentra Plc, joined by representatives from Afreximbank and Sonils.
“Angola has been driving a strong investment strategy through annual licensing rounds, a direct negotiation program and marginal field prospects, creating both a flexible and diverse landscape for international operators. This strategy has already begun to yield positive results, with $60 billion in upstream investments anticipated across the market. Looking ahead, Angola’s participation at AEW: Invest in African Energies is expected to fuel its next era of oil and gas development,” states NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman, African Energy Chamber.
AEW: Invest in African Energies is the platform of choice for project operators, financiers, technology providers and government, and has emerged as the official place to sign deals in African energy. Visit www.aecweek.com for more information about this exciting event.
