AEW 2026 to Highlight Equatorial Guinea’s Gas Mega Hub Scale-Up and New Exploration Blocks

AEW 2026 to Highlight Equatorial Guinea’s Gas Mega Hub Scale-Up and New Exploration Blocks

As Africa develops its estimated 125.3 billion barrels of crude oil and 620 trillion cubic feet of natural gas to strengthen energy security and expand local economies, local-content frameworks are entering a new phase. Governments are moving beyond requirements for local employment and procurement toward building domestic industrial capacity and strengthening digital compliance while maintaining an investment environment capable of delivering competitive returns for international partners.

As geopolitics and energy security concerns increase demand for gas, Equatorial Guinea is positioning itself as a key producer and regional processing powerhouse. Through its Gas Mega Hub, the central African country connects stranded regional offshore resources to world-class export infrastructure. The country is opening new frontier acreage to international exploration companies, unlocking fresh capital, technology and expertise to expand its upstream sector.

African Energy Week (AEW) 2026, taking place in Cape Town from October 12-16, will examine emerging lucrative investment opportunities within Equatorial Guinea’s gas value chain. The event will feature a dedicated panel titled Invest in Equatorial Guinea: Scaling the Mega Gas Hub and Securing Investments for Frontier Exploration, convening regulators, operators and investors to identify partnerships capable of unlocking the next generation of gas industry expansion.

Through its EG Ronda open-door direct negotiations policy, Equatorial Guinea is offering 12 frontier E&P blocks (EG03, EG04, EG12, EG19, EG21, EG26, Block W, Block S, and EG A1–A4) to global investors. Following a 7% gas production increase in 2025 - powered by Gas Mega Hub Phase III and enhanced output from the Alen and Alba fields - the country is using AEW 2026 to attract capital, expand hub feedstock, and capture growing international market share.

Major international deals signed in 2026 highlight surging interest in Equatorial Guinea’s upstream potential. Following three years of direct negotiations - yielding 25 agreements (7 PSCs, 11 Reconnaissance Licenses, 4 HOAs, and 3 MOUs) - recent highlights include block awards to Chevron (EG-07, 13, 14, 25, 30), ConocoPhillips (EG-29), Eni (EG-05, 15, 17, 22), and Galp Energia (EG-02, 09, H). As Equatorial Guinea accelerates exploration partnerships, AEW 2026 provides the key platform to connect investors and sustain this deal-making momentum.

Equatorial Guinea combines rich geology with investor-friendly fiscal policy to unlock its frontier exploration and Gas Mega Hub potential. To attract global capital, the country has reduced corporate income tax from 35% to 25%, establishing one of the region's most competitive operating environments.

“A combination of Equatorial Guinea’s open-door policy, improved fiscal terms, infrastructure-led exploration, tie-back potential, local processing capacity and significant untapped gas resources creates an attractive proposition for global investors,” stated NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber. “As Africa’s gas market expands, Equatorial Guinea is playing a crucial role in that growth while creating new opportunities for investors across the region.”
