AEW 2026 to Honor SLB’s Dr. Nosa Omorodion with Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. Nosa Omorodion, Country Director for Nigeria at SLB, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at African Energy Week (AEW) 2026, taking place October 12–16 in Cape Town. The award recognizes more than three decades of leadership advancing Africa’s upstream oil and gas industry through technology innovation, local content development, production optimization and human capital investment.

A geoscientist with more than 30 years of industry experience, Dr. Omorodion has held several senior leadership roles within SLB, including Director for Nigerian Independents and General Manager for Local Content across Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea. Throughout his career, Dr. Omorodion has played a central role in strengthening domestic capability across Nigeria’s energy value chain while enabling operators to deploy advanced technologies and improve operational performance.

A core focus of Omorodion’s leadership has been the development of Nigeria’s energy workforce and local talent pipeline. SLB has expanded structured training and early-career development initiatives aimed at strengthening long-term in-country capability, including the SLB Technology Graduate Trainee Program, which equips Nigerian graduates with hands-on technical training and industry placement. The SLB Young Creators Program further supports STEM education by empowering students to apply innovation and problem-solving skills to real-world energy challenges. In addition, Dr. Omorodion oversaw the launch of Nigeria’s first AI Academy, strengthening digital and data science capabilities among young professionals and reinforcing the country’s transition toward a more technology-driven energy industry.

Dr. Omorodion also holds senior leadership positions within the wider industry, including Fellow and former President of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists, and serves on the organization’s Board of Trustees. The SLB Nigeria Country Director also remains actively engaged within the Society of Petroleum Engineers Nigeria Council, contributing to broader industry development and professional capacity building.

In parallel, SLB has strengthened its contribution to Nigeria’s upstream sector through the deployment of advanced technologies across drilling, well construction and production optimization workflows. These solutions support operators in improving recovery from mature fields, enhancing operational efficiency and maximizing output from new developments across the country. Omorodion has consistently emphasized the importance of aligning technology deployment with local capability development, ensuring that innovation is matched with the skills required to sustain long-term sector growth.

Commitment to development extends beyond the energy industry. Under Dr. Omorodion’s direction, SLB partnered with the ONE Campaign to install solar power systems across ten healthcare facilities in Lagos, Delta, Imo and Rivers states, improving access to reliable electricity, reducing dependence on diesel generation and strengthening healthcare delivery in underserved communities.

“Dr. Nosa Omorodion has made an enduring contribution to Africa’s energy industry through a consistent focus on innovation, local capacity development and workforce empowerment,” says NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber. “Leadership across SLB Nigeria has helped strengthen the country’s talent pipeline, advance technology deployment and reinforce the long-term foundations of Africa’s energy future. The African Energy Chamber is proud to recognize these achievements with the Lifetime Achievement Award at AEW 2026.”

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals whose leadership has made a lasting impact on Africa’s energy industry. Dr. Omorodion’s distinguished career reflects the innovation, partnership and long-term vision driving the continent’s energy sector forward.
