Afentra Joins AEW 2026 as Associate Sponsor Amid Angolan Expansion Strategy
Afentra, an AIM-listed independent focused on acquiring and revitalizing mature oil assets in Africa, has joined the African Energy Week (AEW) 2026 Conference and Exhibition - taking place from October 12-16 in Cape Town - as an Associate Sponsor. The sponsorship comes as the company expands its Angola portfolio, with an offshore campaign underway at producing Block 3/05, anticipated FID at Block 3/24 and the acquisition of an operated stake at onshore Block KON 4.
Over the years Afentra has built its business by acquiring producing and near-development assets that larger operators have stepped away from, then working to extend their life through enhanced recovery and infill drilling. Its strategy centers on Angola, where it holds a stake in the offshore Block 3/05 in the Lower Congo basin. Operated by Sonangol, both Blocks 3/05 and 3/05A produced around 20,000 barrels of oil per day on a gross basis in the first quarter of 2026. Both assets have shown strong reserve replacement, holding the reserve base steady despite years of production and before any new drilling.
The Block 3/05 and 3/05A joint venture partners - namely, Sonangol, Afentra, Maurel & Prom, Etu Energias and NIS Naftgas - are pursuing a redevelopment program at the blocks. The Pacassa SW exploration well at Block 3/05 is underway, with results expected in July 2026. This will be followed by the drilling of a second well at Impala. If successful, the campaign could lift recoverable volumes by roughly 50 million barrels.
Beyond these assets, the company is advancing the development of Block 3/24 - situated adjacent to Block 3/05. The company expects to make FID on up to three discoveries at the block in late 2026 or early 2027, with plans to reach first oil by the end of 2027. Block 3/24 contains 10 discoveries and is estimated to hold more than 130 million barrels of initial oil in place and about 37 million barrels of 2C recoverable resources.
Meanwhile, Afentra has also strengthened its position onshore. The company signed a Risk Service Contract for a 35% operated interest in Block KON 4 in May 2026. Initial technical and subsurface studies have already begun, while the assessment of the Quenguela Norte reactivation is underway alongside a review of local permitting and above-ground requirements. To date, 11 oilfields and two gas fields have been discovered at the block, with over 90 million barrels equivalent produced.
“Afentra is a model for how independents can create value from Africa's mature fields, working hand in hand with national oil companies to unlock additional barrels at proven assets,” says NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber. “The company’s partnership with Sonangol shows how aligned operators and host governments can keep barrels flowing and capital working.”
As an Associate Sponsor of AEW 2026, Afentra is expected to feature in discussions on legacy-field revitalization, indigenous partnerships and the financing structures that allow independents to grow production across Africa.
