ANPG Joins AEW 2026 as Diamond Partner as Angola Targets $70B in Oil and Gas Investment

ANPG Joins AEW 2026 as Diamond Partner as Angola Targets $70B in Oil and Gas Investment

The National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) has been confirmed as a diamond partner for African Energy Week (AEW) 2026 – scheduled for October 12 – 16 in Cape Town. ANPG’s partnerships underscores AEW’s caliber in linking international investors with high-growth prospects in Angola as the agency drives an ambitious strategy to expand resource development

AEW 2026 comes at a time when Angola targets approximately $70 billion in oil and gas investment over the next five years to revitalize exploration, develop new projects and sustain national production. The country recorded more than $14 billion in annual oil and gas investment over the past three years, while production has faced a natural decline rate of approximately 15%–16% annually. Against this backdrop, Angola is targeting production of more than 1.1 million barrels per day through 2030, making continued exploration, brownfield redevelopment and new project development critical to the country's long-term energy strategy.

ANPG has accelerated efforts to expand Angola’s exploration portfolio and attract new investment across both greenfield and brownfield opportunities. More than 70 new blocks have been awarded over the past seven years, bringing the total number of assigned blocks to more than 90, reflecting the agency’s efforts to broaden exploration activity and replenish the country’s reserves.

In August, ANPG and Chevron announced an oil and gas condensate discovery from the 105-4X exploration well in Block 0, offshore Angola. The well encountered a hydrocarbon column exceeding 600 meters, including more than 90 meters of net pay in the primary Pinda reservoir. ANPG and Chevron are also advancing exploration across Blocks 49, 50, 33 and 14/23, supporting efforts to open new frontiers and strengthen Angola’s medium- and long-term production pipeline.

Earlier in August, ANPG and Sonangol E&P announced successful drilling of the PAC 416 well in Block 3/05 in the Lower Congo Basin, confirming a net oil column and further strengthening the country's resource base.

The Katambi-2 appraisal well in Block 24, meanwhile, also completed drilling and testing operations in August, confirming commercial hydrocarbon flows and providing additional momentum to Angola’s exploration and development campaign.

Further exploration opportunities are emerging onshore. In June, ANPG signed a Risk Services Contract for the Kwanza 4 Block in the Onshore Kwanza Basin with Afentra, Grupo Simples Oil, Sonangol Exploração & Produção, Brite’s Oil and Gas and Sodedurs. The agreement is designed to accelerate exploration and unlock new production opportunities in one of Angola’s underexplored basins.

ANPG and Azule Energy have also advanced exploration in the Lower Congo Basin following the Algaita-01 discovery in Block 15/06, estimated to contain approximately 500 million barrels of oil.

New developments are also positioning Angola to offset natural production decline.

In June, ANPG, Azule Energy, Equinor and Sonangol reached FID on the $5.1 billion Greater PAJ project, which is expected to develop approximately 252 million barrels of reserves, with first oil targeted for early 2029.

Meanwhile, ANPG and TotalEnergies signed an agreement in May covering the continued development of Block 32 and extending production periods for its development areas to 2043. The agreement provides greater long-term stability for investment while supporting the continued development of existing resources.

Beyond upstream production, ANPG is also working to strengthen domestic participation in the energy value chain. Its partnership with Standard Bank Angola aims to improve access to financing for Angolan energy companies, with up to 1,000 companies expected to benefit. The initiative supports the development of local suppliers and strengthens the capacity of domestic businesses to participate in Angola’s growing oil and gas industry.

“With ANPG, we observe consistency and discipline in revitalizing the regulatory environment to improve the business environment for global oil and gas companies, while also seeing direct participation in unlocking Angola’s exploration and production potential for regional and global energy security and the growth of the Angolan economy,” stated NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber.

At AEW 2026, ANPG executives will participate in high-level panel discussions and exclusive networking sessions, showcasing Angola’s regulatory reforms, exploration opportunities, upcoming projects and investment prospects across the oil and gas value chain.
