Azule Energy Takes Angola’s Next Investment Wave to AEW 2026
Azule Energy, Angola’s largest independent oil and gas producer, has joined African Energy Week (AEW) 2026 as a Bronze Partner, bringing one of the continent’s fastest-growing upstream portfolios to the event as investment in Angola gathers pace.
The partnership comes at a significant moment for Azule, which has moved from project development into a new phase of production growth following major milestones across its portfolio. The company was formed in 2022 as a 50:50 joint venture between bp and Eni and today holds interests in 18 licensed blocks, with operations concentrated in Angola and a growing exploration presence in Namibia.
In 2025, Azule brought its flagship Agogo Integrated West Hub online in Block 15/06, with first oil from the Agogo FPSO in July. The project covers the Agogo and Ndungu fields and is expected to reach peak production of around 175,000 barrels per day across the Agogo and existing Ngoma FPSOs. In February 2026, the company also announced the start-up of the Ndungu full-field development, marking another step in the expansion of the West Hub.
Gas is becoming an increasingly important part of the portfolio. Azule operates the New Gas Consortium (NGC), developing the Quiluma and Maboqueiro fields in what is Angola’s first non-associated gas project. Production from the NGC began in March 2026, with the project designed to supply gas to Angola LNG and strengthen the country’s domestic gas and LNG value chain.
The company is also investing heavily in the next generation of Angolan production. In June 2026, Azule and its partners took FID on the Greater PAJ project, committing $5.1 billion to Angola’s first integrated cross-block development. The Lower Congo Basin project will connect resources in Block 31 and Block 31/21 through a new FPSO, with first oil targeted for the first half of 2029. The development is expected to unlock an estimated 252 million barrels of oil resources.
Exploration is adding further upside. In 2025, Azule announced the Gajajeira-01 gas discovery in Block 1/14, with preliminary estimates indicating more than 1 trillion cubic feet of gas in place and up to 100 million barrels of associated condensate. The company has also been expanding beyond Angola. In Namibia’s Orange Basin, Azule holds a 42.5% interest in Block 2914A, also known as PEL 85, where exploration activity has delivered further discoveries and strengthened the company’s regional growth strategy.
“Azule Energy demonstrates what Africa’s energy sector needs more of: companies willing to put capital behind African resources, execute major projects and create lasting value across the continent,” says NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber. “From Agogo and Ndungu to the New Gas Consortium and the Greater PAJ development, Azule is showing that Angola remains a compelling destination for serious, long-term energy investment. Its growing presence in Namibia also underscores the opportunity to build regional energy champions with African projects at their core.”
Azule’s participation at AEW 2026 will provide an opportunity for investors, policymakers and industry partners to engage with the company’s expanding project pipeline and its vision for sustaining Angola’s production, monetising its gas resources and unlocking new opportunities across Southern Africa.
