From Baleine to Congo LNG, Eni’s African Portfolio Takes the AEW 2026 Stage

Eni is bringing its broad African investment portfolio to the African Energy Week (AEW) 2026 Conference and Exhibition as a Silver Partner, reinforcing the Italian energy major’s position as one of the continent’s most active international investors across oil, gas, LNG and emerging energy businesses.

With a presence in Africa stretching back more than seven decades, Eni operates across markets spanning North, West, Central and Southern Africa. Its current portfolio includes major upstream and gas projects in Algeria, Angola, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ghana, Libya, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo and Tunisia, alongside investments in energy access, bioenergy and other lower-carbon activities.

The company enters AEW 2026 following a strong run of project start-ups. Eni reported that its global 2025 production growth was supported by new projects and ramp-ups in Ivory Coast, Congo and Angola, among other markets, with full-year hydrocarbon production reaching 1.73 million barrels of oil equivalent per day.

In Ivory Coast, the Baleine development has emerged as a flagship example of Eni’s fast-track approach. Phase 2 began production in December 2024, lifting field output to 60,000 barrels per day and associated gas production to 70 million cubic feet per day. Crucially for the domestic energy system, the gas is being supplied entirely to local power generation. Eni has also expanded its exploration position in the country, acquiring a new offshore block in 2025.

Further west, Congo LNG is strengthening Eni’s position in Africa’s rapidly expanding LNG sector. The second phase, which began ahead of schedule in late 2025, introduced the Nguya FLNG and brought total Congo LNG capacity to 3 million tons per annum. The project delivered its first LNG cargo in February 2026, adding new export capacity while developing gas resources from the Nené and Litchendjili fields in the Marine XII license.

Angola remains another major pillar. Through Azule Energy, its 50:50 joint venture with bp, Eni is participating in the Agogo Integrated West Hub in Block 15/06. Agogo started production in 2025, followed by the Ndungu full-field development in February 2026. Together, the two fields are expected to reach peak production of approximately 175,000 barrels per day.

Meanwhile, Eni continues to develop some of Africa’s most strategically important gas resources. In Egypt, Zohr remains the largest gas discovery in the Mediterranean, while in Mozambique the company’s Coral South and Coral North projects form part of a growing LNG portfolio. Eni’s wider African strategy also extends into Algeria and Libya, where it is pursuing additional upstream and gas opportunities.

“Eni’s African portfolio shows the scale and diversity of opportunity available across this continent, from frontier exploration and deepwater production to LNG, domestic gas supply and new energy solutions,” said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber. “At AEW 2026, Eni can help demonstrate why Africa should not simply be viewed as a source of resources, but as a destination for long-term investment, industrial development and energy partnerships.”

As African countries seek to attract capital, expand domestic energy supply and build stronger links with international markets, Eni’s participation at AEW 2026 will put the company’s multi-market investment strategy firmly into focus.
