Bharat Tanks & Vessels Joins AEW 2026 as LPG Storage Becomes Critical to Africa’s Clean Cooking Push
Bharat Tanks & Vessels (BTV), an Indian manufacturer of storage tanks, pressure vessels and turnkey gas terminal systems, will participate as a Bronze Sponsor at African Energy Week (AEW) 2026, taking place from October 12–16 in Cape Town, as demand for LPG infrastructure across Africa gathers pace.
The company’s participation comes at a pivotal moment for the continent’s energy transition. With more than 90% of households still reliant on biomass for cooking, Africa’s shift toward cleaner fuels is increasingly dependent on LPG availability and distribution infrastructure. The IEA projects LPG demand in Africa could rise three- to five-fold by 2030, with universal clean cooking requiring access for more than 400 million people – making storage and terminal capacity a defining bottleneck.
Across the value chain, infrastructure gaps remain a key constraint. Roughly half of Africa’s LPG supply is imported, meaning that import terminals, storage depots and bottling facilities are essential to scaling access.
With more than three decades of experience, BTV delivers LPG storage tanks, mounded bullets, spheres, pressure vessels and fully integrated terminal and bottling facilities on a turnkey basis – from engineering and fabrication through to installation and commissioning. Its equipment is designed to international standards including ASME and PD 5500, a key requirement for projects seeking international financing and large-scale deployment.
The company has been steadily expanding its footprint across Africa, which now represents a core export market. It has supplied hydrogen-ready vessels in markets including South Africa and Ivory Coast, positioning itself not only for current LPG demand but also for longer-term gas and transition fuel infrastructure.
That dual positioning extends into emerging energy systems. Alongside LPG infrastructure, BTV manufactures vessels for ammonia, CO₂ and hydrogen applications, aligning with early-stage plans for lower-carbon fuel infrastructure across African markets.
“The story of African energy access is, in large part, a story about storage and infrastructure,” said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber. “Companies like Bharat Tanks & Vessels provide the critical backbone – the terminals, tanks and vessels – that enable LPG imports and gas resources to actually reach households and industries across the continent.”
As a Bronze Sponsor at AEW 2026, BTV is expected to contribute to discussions on LPG infrastructure scale-up, storage bottlenecks and the role of midstream equipment suppliers in accelerating energy access across Africa.
