CABSHIP Founder João Filipe Honored with AEW 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award

The African Energy Week (AEW) Conference and Exhibition is proud to announce that João Filipe, Founder and CEO of CABSHIP, will receive the 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Gala Dinner & Awards in Cape Town this October. Filipe is recognized for his tireless commitment to strengthening Angolan participation across the oil and gas value chain and his success in establishing a competitive local company capable of working alongside international operators to advance Angola’s oil and gas industry.

Filipe founded CABSHIP in 2009, building the company from its origins in maritime services at the Port of Cabinda into one of Angola’s leading indigenous logistics and materials management companies. Today, the company’s activities span integrated logistics, supply chain and petroleum materials management, warehousing, procurement and offshore support.

A defining feature of Filipe’s career has been his ability to build an Angolan company capable of working with international oil companies operating some of the country’s most important assets. CABSHIP has supported Chevron’s operations in Blocks 0 and 14 and worked with companies including Azule Energy and Etu Energias. The company has expanded from Cabinda into Soyo and Luanda, establishing itself as a trusted local partner within Angola’s highly technical oil and gas supply chain.

CABSHIP’s scale reflects that evolution. Filipe said in 2025 that the company manages client inventory worth close to $1 billion. The company has also expanded its physical capabilities, including through the acquisition of a 50,000-square-meter fabrication yard near Malongo in Cabinda, while advancing a diving and offshore marine support venture.

Under Filipe’s leadership, CABSHIP continues to transform itself into an increasingly streamlined firm. A key pillar of the company’s strategy is the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies. The company has integrated AI-based tools into its logistics and supply chain operations. This has enabled improved cargo tracking, optimized operational planning and enhanced project execution.

For Filipe, however, building CABSHIP has been part of a broader ambition: creating space for Angolan businesses and entrepreneurs throughout the industry. He has consistently advocated greater cooperation between international operators and domestic companies, while calling on Angolan firms to professionalize, meet international standards and build capabilities that can ultimately be exported to other African markets.

A core focus has been strengthening capacity building across the industry. CABSHIP has a partnership agreement in place with Angola’s National Petroleum Institute to support training programs for young Angolan professionals. The initiative currently benefits 15 participants from Cabinda, Zaire, Bengo and Luanda, who are receiving specialized training in industrial electricity for renewable energy systems and international welding. The program demonstrates Filipe’s broader commitment to supporting the next generation of Angola’s energy workforce.
