CCMUSA Seeks Stronger U.S.-Mozambique Energy Partnership

The Mozambique - USA Chamber of Commerce (CCMUSA) is seeking new avenues to strengthen collaboration between U.S. and Mozambican companies to advance the energy sectors of both nations, according to CCMUSA President, Onorio Manuel.

Speaking with the African Energy Chamber during last week’s Invest in African Energy: Mozambique Roundtable, Manuel said the consortium is assessing the impact of the new U.S. administration’s foreign policy, as well as the strategies employed by American companies in Mozambique and their influence on local business opportunities.

“We are laying out all available opportunities for U.S. companies in Mozambique,” he stated.

He commended ExxonMobil's commitment towards the growth of Mozambique’s LNG sector, employment creation and revenue generation expansion through investment in the Rovuma LNG project. Boasting 85 trillion cubic feet of gas, the $25 billion project is expected to generate $21,4 million in state revenue, producing 15.2 million tons of LNG for global markets and 17,000 tons for the domestic market. Beyond financing infrastructure development, ExxonMobil has been instrumental in community development, investing over $20 million in Mozambique since 2017 as part of its social investment strategy.

Manuel noted that while the U.S. seeks a mutually beneficial relationship with its global partners, Mozambique’s business community is also looking beyond foreign aid.

“Our goal is to explore, showcase and offer viable prospects that foster growth for both sides,” added Manuel, adding “As a business community, we are focused on building sustainable partnerships with the U.S.”

In addition to supporting U.S. companies in driving growth within Mozambique’s energy sector, U.S. financial institutions play a vital role in facilitating project rollouts by international firms. For example, TotalEnergies is expected to secure loan approval from a U.S. institution in Q1 2025 for its multi-billion-dollar Mozambique LNG project—one of the world’s largest gas developments.

As the premier platform where Africa’s energy market prospects are discussed and optimized, the African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energy conference will connect Mozambican projects within U.S. and global investors for deal-signings and industry-changing partnerships.
