Chevron Returns as Diamond Sponsor of AEW 2026, Cementing Long-Term African Energy Strategy

U.S. energy major Chevron has joined African Energy Week (AEW) 2026 as a Diamond Sponsor, underscoring its long-term commitment to Africa’s oil and gas industry and its growing investment across key hydrocarbon markets. As one of the continent’s largest international energy investors, Chevron’s participation at AEW 2026 comes as the company accelerates upstream development, gas monetization and exploration activities across Angola, Nigeria and the wider Gulf of Guinea.

Chevron’s African portfolio remains anchored by Angola and Nigeria – two markets where the company continues to pursue large-scale offshore oil and gas developments. In Angola, Chevron recently achieved first oil at the South N’dola Platform in Block 0, a project tied back to the Mafumeira facility to maximize existing infrastructure and lower development costs. The platform is expected to strengthen production from one of Angola’s most prolific offshore assets.

Chevron is also advancing Angola’s gas sector through its role in the New Gas Consortium, which is bringing non-associated gas resources from offshore Blocks 0 and 14 into production to supply feedstock to the Angola LNG plant in Soyo. This builds on Chevron’s recent progress in gas infrastructure, including the achievement of first gas at the Sanha Lean Gas Connection project in late 2024, increasing gas supply to both Angola LNG and domestic power generation.

In September 2025, Chevron signed a preliminary agreement with Angola’s National Oil, Gas & Biofuels Agency for offshore Block 33/24 in the Lower Congo Basin, highlighting its intention to expand deepwater exploration activity in the country.

In Nigeria, Chevron is ramping up exploration and drilling activity following recent discoveries in the Niger Delta, including the Meji NW-1 (2024) and Awodi-07 (2026) wells. The company has also extended its offshore drilling contract with Shelf Drilling through mid-2026 to support ongoing exploration and development programs. In parallel, Chevron is preparing to participate in Nigeria’s next licensing round while pursuing additional near-field opportunities around its deepwater Agbami field.

Beyond its core markets, Chevron is strengthening its position in emerging African gas plays. In early 2026, the company reaffirmed its commitment to the Yoyo-Yolanda gas project spanning Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. The cross-border development is expected to support future LNG supply growth in the Gulf of Guinea by leveraging existing infrastructure at Alen and Punta Europa.

“Chevron’s continued investment across Africa demonstrates the confidence international energy companies have in the continent’s long-term energy potential,” said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber. “From Angola’s LNG expansion to offshore exploration in Nigeria and emerging gas developments in Central Africa, Chevron is helping advance projects that will drive economic growth, energy access and investment across the continent.”

As a Diamond Sponsor of AEW 2026, Chevron is expected to play a central role in discussions surrounding upstream investment, gas monetization, infrastructure development and Africa’s evolving role in global energy markets. The event will convene industry leaders, investors and policymakers in Cape Town to shape the future of African energy development.
