EG LNG Advances Equatorial Guinea's Gas Mega Hub Strategy as Silver Partner at AEW 2026

EG LNG Advances Equatorial Guinea's Gas Mega Hub Strategy as Silver Partner at AEW 2026

Natural gas producer EG LNG will participate as a Silver Partner at African Energy Week (AEW) 2026, taking place on October 12 - 16 in Cape Town. The company's participation reflects its growing role in advancing Equatorial Guinea's ambition to become a regional gas hub, supporting Africa's agenda to monetize its 620 trillion cubic feet of natural gas resources to expand industrialization and improve access to affordable energy.

As operator of the Punta Europa LNG Terminal in Malabo, EG LNG sits at the center of Equatorial Guinea's Gas Mega Hub strategy, processing natural gas for domestic consumption and international export. The company also operates the LNG2Africa initiative, which delivers LNG sourced from the Akonikien LNG project to African markets with limited gas infrastructure, expanding access to cleaner energy across the continent.

EG LNG's participation at AEW 2026 comes as Equatorial Guinea accelerates one of Africa's most ambitious upstream gas expansion programs. In 2026, the government expanded its open-door licensing framework, offering multiple exploration blocks through direct negotiations and securing more than a dozen agreements with international energy companies. These include production and exploration agreements with Galp Energia covering Blocks EG-09, EG-02 and Block H; reconnaissance agreements with Eni covering six offshore blocks; Heads of Sale Agreements with ConocoPhillips for Blocks EG-28 and EG-29; and a Heads of Agreement with Chevron to advance new upstream developments. Equatorial Guinea also signed an agreement with Cameroon to jointly develop the cross-border Yoyo-Yolanda gas fields, estimated to contain approximately 2.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Together, these agreements are expected to expand upstream production, increase feedstock supplies for EG LNG's processing facilities and reinforce the country's position as a regional LNG supplier.

Alongside upstream expansion, Equatorial Guinea continues to strengthen its investment climate through regulatory reforms designed to attract long-term capital into its natural gas industry. Presidential Decree No. 100/2024 enhances protections for foreign investment in the hydrocarbons sector, while the reduction of the corporate income tax rate from 35% to 25% improves the commercial competitiveness of new gas developments. These reforms complement the country's Gas Mega Hub and Gas Master Plan strategies, creating a more attractive environment for investors seeking lucrative opportunities across Africa’s gas value chain.

"Equatorial Guinea is demonstrating how strategic investment, supportive regulation and world-class infrastructure can transform natural gas into a catalyst for industrialization and regional energy security," states NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber. "With EG LNG serving as the backbone of the country's Gas Mega Hub strategy, Equatorial Guinea is creating new opportunities for investors across the entire gas value chain. AEW 2026 will provide an important platform for global investors to engage with these emerging opportunities."
