E&P Speakers Join AEW 2025 Amid Billion-Dollar Oil & Gas Drive in Africa
Africa’s oil and gas capital expenditure is projected to reach $43 billion in 2025 and $54 billion in 2030, reflecting a strong drive by exploration and production (E&P) firms to advance investment and development across the continent. At the African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies Conference – taking place September 29 to October 3 in Cape Town – a lineup of E&P speakers will shed light into the continent’s upstream sector, outlining ongoing exploration campaigns, production challenges and collaborative opportunities.
African oil producers are making significant strides towards increasing production, leveraging global partnerships to maximize output at mature fields and new investments to unlock new frontiers. Angola, for example, has seen a surge of investment across its oil market on the back of regulatory reform, with companies such as Azule Energy and Maurel & Prom expanding their presence across both exploration and producing blocks.
Similarly, Gabon continues to witness upstream success, with discoveries made by independence E&P firms showcasing the potential for additional resource recovery. At AEW: Invest in African Energies 2025, speakers from these companies will highlight the impact ongoing exploration campaigns will have on the continent’s production dynamics. Speakers include:
- Giovanni Aquilina, Exploration Director, Azule Energy
- Olivier de Langavant, CEO, Maurel & Prom
- Tim O’Hanlon – Senior Adviser, Panoro Energy
Africa’s natural gas market is also experiencing rapid growth, the with emergence of new producing markets consolidating the continent’s status as a major global supplier. Senegal, for example, joined the world’s gas producers in 2024 with the start of operations at the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim LNG development. Developed by bp and Kosmos Energy, the project will produce 2.3 million tons per annum (mtpa) in the first phase and 5 mtpa in the second phase.
Mozambique has also established itself as an LNG exporter with the start of operations at the Coral Sul FLNG project in 2022. Situated in the Rovuma Basin, the project is one of several LNG developments set to come online in the coming years. Others include Coral North FLNG (2028), Rovuma LNG (2030) and Mozambique LNG. At AEW: Invest in African Energies 2025, speakers from these markets will provide an update on projects. Speakers include:
- Marica Calabrese, Managing Director, Eni Rovuma Basin
- Talla Gueye, CEO, Petrosen E&P
“Ongoing projects across Africa’s oil and gas landscape underscore the level of opportunity that still lies across the continent’s hydrocarbon basins. As global demand continues to grow, E&P players have a strategic opportunity to leverage African resources to not only meet rising consumption but drive sustainable economic growth across the continent,” states Tomás Gerbasio, VP Commercial and Strategic Engagement, African Energy Chamber.
AEW: Invest in African Energies is the platform of choice for project operators, financiers, technology providers and government, and has emerged as the official place to sign deals in African energy. Visit www.aecweek.com for more information about this exciting event.
