Equatorial Guinea’s Antonio Oburu Ondo to Speak at African Energy Week 2026 as Gas Strategy Accelerates
Antonio Oburu Ondo, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mining Development of Equatorial Guinea, has been confirmed as a speaker at African Energy Week (AEW) 2026, where he is expected to outline the country’s accelerating hydrocarbons agenda, landmark gas monetization projects and upcoming upstream licensing round.
Under Minister Oburu Ondo’s leadership, Equatorial Guinea has doubled down on its Gas Mega Hub strategy, designed to transform the country into a regional gas processing and LNG export center anchored at the Punta Europa complex. The initiative continues to gain momentum through major projects such as the Alen Gas Monetization Project and the Aseng Gas Project, which reached a final investment decision in 2026, unlocking new feedstock for LNG production and domestic energy supply.
These developments are reinforced by deepening activity from international operators including Chevron, ConocoPhillips and Panoro Energy, which continue to invest in both mature field optimization and new exploration campaigns. Chevron’s expansion into Block EG-06 and EG-11, alongside ConocoPhillips’ LNG cargo exports from Punta Europa in 2025, highlights renewed confidence in Equatorial Guinea’s upstream sector and infrastructure backbone. Panoro Energy’s recently completed acquisition in Block G is also set to nearly double its production from Equatorial Guinea assets, increasing its exposure to the Ceiba Field and Okume Complex and further strengthening the country’s position as a growth hub for independent operators.
A key pillar of the Minister’s AEW 2026 agenda will be the country’s EG Ronda 2026 licensing round, expected to open up to 24 offshore and onshore blocks for exploration between April and November 2026. The round is backed by extensive seismic acquisition and data reprocessing programs aimed at de-risking frontier acreage and attracting a new wave of upstream investors.
Beyond exploration, Equatorial Guinea is implementing broad fiscal and regulatory reforms to enhance competitiveness, including tax reductions and updates to the hydrocarbons and labor frameworks. These reforms are designed to improve investor confidence while sustaining long-term production across aging and new fields.

As AEW continues to serve as a premier platform for deal-making and policy dialogue, Minister Oburu Ondo’s participation in the 2026 edition is expected to reaffirm Equatorial Guinea’s position as one of Africa’s most active and strategically focused hydrocarbon jurisdictions – bridging gas monetization, upstream expansion and regional energy integration.
