Golar LNG Joins AEW 2026 as Gold Sponsor Amid Africa’s FLNG Market Expansion
Bermuda-based floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) infrastructure company Golar LNG has joined the African Energy Week (AEW) 2026 Conference and Exhibition as a Gold Sponsor. Golar LNG’s participation positions the company alongside key drivers of Africa’s gas monetization agenda.
Taking place October 12 - 16 in Cape Town, AEW 2026 comes as African countries are increasingly turning to FLNG infrastructure for faster and cost-effective commercialization of the region’s over 620 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves for energy security and affordability.
A major milestone in the company’s African expansion strategy was reached in late 2025 when Golar LNG secured a $1.2 billion refinancing facility for the FLNG Gimi vessel currently deployed at the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) gas project offshore Senegal and Mauritania. With Kosmos Energy, bp and Petrosen – operators of the GTA - leveraging existing infrastructure for GTA Phase 1+ expansion, this financing will position Golar LNG as an increasingly important player in supporting regional energy reliability.
Golar LNG is also positioning itself to support the Decade of Gas initiative – Nigeria’s strategy to optimize the monetization of over 200 trillion cubic feet of gas for energy security - through its participation in an FLNG development with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company. The project will enable the monetization of between 400 million and 500 million standard cubic feet of gas per day from 2027 to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial feedstock supply and LNG export capacity.
Golar LNG is positioning itself as a strategic long-term partner to meet rising regional demand for FLNG as countries like Mozambique, Congo, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea explore FLNG as a viable solution to commercialize stranded offshore gas assets.
The company is converting one LNG carrier into an FLNG vessel in China, with deployment opportunities targeted from either 2027 or 2028 as African demand for floating gas infrastructure accelerates.
In Cameroon, Golar LNG is supporting export revenues and regional gas market stability through its FLNG Hilli vessel in use at the Perenco-operated Sanaga Sud field. The project has lifted more than 129 LNG cargoes for export since 2018, highlighting Golar LNG’s strong reputation as a reliable long-term partner.
“Golar LNG’s role in enabling Senegal, Mauritania and Cameroon to realize their first FLNG projects has been pivotal. As more African countries unlock stranded gas resources for energy independence and affordability, Golar LNG’s expertise will be crucial,” stated NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber.
At AEW 2026, Golar LNG executives will participate in high-level panel discussions and exclusive networking sessions focused on Africa’s evolving gas market. The event will showcase the company’s long-term expansion and investment strategy across the continent.
