Leading MSGBC IOCs Join AEW 2026 as Production Momentum Continues to Build
Energy major bp and upstream oil company Kosmos Energy will bring a strong leadership delegation from Mauritania and Senegal to African Energy Week (AEW) 2026, bringing critical insight into one of Africa’s fastest-growing gas regions. Their participation comes as the MSGBC basin enters a new phase of commercial production, project optimization and strategic portfolio realignment, following years of development activity across Mauritania and Senegal.
Taking place from October 12–16 in Cape Town, AEW 2026 serves as the continent’s premier platform for energy investment, policy dialogue and project development. Held under the theme “Invest in African Energies: Affordable and Abundant Energy Additions,” the event will gather operators, financiers, policymakers and technology providers to discuss the projects driving Africa’s energy future, with the rapidly evolving gas sector in Mauritania and Senegal expected to feature prominently.
Khady Dior Ndiaye, Vice President and Country Manager, Kosmos Energy in Senegal, joins the conference amid a period of strategic transformation in Senegal’s upstream sector. In April 2026, Kosmos completed the transfer of its interest in the Yakaar-Teranga field to Senegal’s state-owned Petrosen, streamlining its regional portfolio and reinforcing its focus on value creation through the producing GTA project. The transaction marked a significant milestone in Senegal’s evolving gas strategy while enabling Kosmos to concentrate on optimizing production, cash flow generation and future growth opportunities associated with GTA.
Representing bp’s regional leadership, Dave Campbell, Senior Vice President, bp Mauritania and Senegal, joins the conference as the company focuses on maximizing value from the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project following its successful transition into commercial operations. In January 2026, the project partners completed a major FPSO refinancing initiative aimed at significantly reducing operating costs and strengthening long-term project economies, positioning GTA as a cornerstone asset in bp’s global gas portfolio.
Ismail Sid Ahmed, Vice President and Country Manager, Kosmos Energy in Mauritania, joins the event as GTA continues to ramp up production and exports. By late 2025, the project had reached its full nameplate capacity of 2.7 million tons per annum, with partners targeting approximately 36 gross LNG cargoes during 2026. The project’s operational performance has reinforced Mauritania’s emergence as a significant player in the global LNG market.
Massaer Cisse, Vice President and Country Manager for bp Senegal, will be positioned to provide perspectives on the project’s transition from commissioning to sustained commercial operations. Following first LNG exports in April 2025 and the declaration of commercial operations that June, GTA established a new LNG export corridor for West Africa while also supporting plans to expand domestic gas supply in both Senegal and Mauritania.
Mohamed Limam, Vice President and Country Manager for bp Mauritania, joins AEW 2026 as Mauritania seeks to leverage GTA’s success to accelerate broader economic development. The project achieved first gas at the end of 2024, marking a historic milestone for both host countries and setting the stage for Mauritania’s entry into the global LNG industry. As discussions continue regarding future expansion phases, including additional domestic gas infrastructure, the project remains central to the country’s long-term energy strategy.
“bp and Kosmos Energy have been instrumental in unlocking the immense gas potential of Mauritania and Senegal, helping establish the MSGBC basin as a globally relevant energy province. Their participation at AEW 2026 will provide valuable insight into the operational, commercial and investment opportunities shaping the next chapter of growth in West Africa’s gas sector,” says NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman, African Energy Chamber.
The participation of bp and Kosmos Energy’s senior leadership reflects the growing significance of the MSGBC basin as a destination for energy investment. With GTA now operating as a world-class LNG project and governments pursuing new pathways for domestic gas utilization, AEW 2026 offers a timely platform for stakeholders to examine the opportunities, challenges and next phase of growth across one of Africa’s most dynamic gas-producing regions.
