ND Western Brings Expertise in Safety, Gas-to-Power and Community Development to AEW 2025 as Bronze Partner
Independent Nigerian energy company ND Western will participate as a Bronze Partner at this year’s African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies 2025 conference, taking place in Cape Town from September 29 to October 3. Formed through a consortium of four companies – Aradel, Petrolin Trading Limited, FIRST Exploration and Petroleum Development Company (FIRST E&P) and WalterSmith Exploration and Production Company – ND Western successfully manages major assets while driving sustainable oil and gas production, energy security and long-term growth.
In August, the company recorded 35 million work hours without a lost time injury. This milestone underscores ND Western’s commitment to world-class health, safety and environment standards and a people-first approach to operational excellence. Meanwhile, ND Western has also prioritized community development through its OML 34 joint venture with Nigeria Exploration and Production Limited, recently awarding 150 university scholarships to indigent students across 35 host communities.
AEW: Invest in African Energies is the platform of choice for project operators, financiers, technology providers and government, and has emerged as the official place to sign deals in African energy. Visit www.aecweek.com for more information about this exciting event.
Last March, ND Western further strengthened its position in Nigeria’s upstream sector through Renaissance – a consortium including Aradel Holdings, FIRST E&P, Waltersmith Group and Petrolin Group – which completed the landmark $2.4 billion acquisition of Shell Petroleum Development Company. The transaction marks a defining moment for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, reinforcing the role of indigenous operators in driving energy security, boosting local capacity and ensuring the sustainable development of hydrocarbon resources.
Meanwhile, reinforcing its gas-to-power strategy, ND Western has also partnered with Optimera Energy in a 20-year gas infrastructure development agreement with the Lagos Free Zone. The initiative, launched in January last year, will expand gas distribution to industrial off-takers, strengthen Nigeria’s energy infrastructure and advance the country’s industrialization agenda. Through this partnership, ND Western underscores its commitment to leveraging OML 34’s gas output to drive sustainable power generation and economic growth.
Looking ahead, ND Western is focused on expanding production capacity at OML 34 by developing new fields and upgrading its gas-processing facilities. The company is also advancing the Utorogu Industrial Park to localize manufacturing, reinforcing its ambition to become one of Africa’s top energy companies while delivering clean, efficient and safe energy solutions.
“ND Western’s milestones in safety, community development and gas-to-power infrastructure reflect the strength of indigenous operators in shaping Africa’s energy future. By expanding OML 34 and advancing projects like the Utorogu Industrial Park, the company is not only enhancing Nigeria’s energy security but also setting new benchmarks for sustainable growth and local capacity development,” states Tomás Gerbasio, VP of Commercial and Strategic Engagement, African Energy Chamber.
