OMV are Open For More Activities in Africa

OMV aims to further deepen its partnerships in Africa. During a discussion with NJ Ayuk, Chairman of the African Energy Chamber, Berislav Gašo, Executive Vice President for Energy at OMV, revealed the company’s renewed ambitions and recent advances in African markets.

Gašo emphasized that OMV has maintained operations in Libya but recently resumed exploration activities after more than a decade. In 2023, OMV restarted drilling in the Sirte Basin under Block 106/4, including the Essar (B1-106/4) well, marking its first exploration campaign since activities were previously put on hold.

Gašo highlighted what sets OMV apart from other international players, “Our strength is deep technical and technological expertise. From the North Sea to the Black Sea and North Africa, we have a proven track record in developing mature assets. We are not speculative investors – when we enter a market, it’s to stay. Local content is always a priority.”

Discussing energy security, he underlined the importance of balancing investment with development goals, “It comes down to building strong partnerships on the ground and ensuring that local demand is met. There is still catching up to do across Africa and that requires a pragmatic approach.”

OMV is here to partner for the long term, to co-create value, respect local priorities, and build enduring relationships of mutual interest.
