Sahara Group to Participate as Associate Partner at Cape Town Energy Event on the Heels of Fleet Expansion, LNG Supply Deal and New Investments

International energy and infrastructure conglomerate Sahara Group will participate as an Associate Partner at African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies 2025, taking place from September 29 to October 3 in Cape Town. The partnership highlights the company’s role in expanding Africa’s energy infrastructure, advancing gas development and promoting sustainable energy solutions across multiple markets.

The announcement follows Sahara Group’s latest milestone with join venture company WAGL Energy – co-owned with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) – which recently unveiled a new 40,000 cubic meter LPG carrier, MT Iyaloja (Lagos), in Ulsan, South Korea. The addition brings WAGL’s fleet capacity to over 160,000 cubic meters, strengthening West Africa’s access to clean cooking gas and aligning with the NNPC’s $1 billion gas infrastructure investment plan.

AEW: Invest in African Energies is the platform of choice for project operators, financiers, technology providers and government, and has emerged as the official place to sign deals in African energy. Visit www.aecweek.com for more information about this exciting event.

Sahara Group also recently signed a 20-year LNG sales and purchase agreement with Amigo LNG – a subsidiary of Singapore’s LNG Alliance – securing 0.6 million tons per annum from Mexico’s planned 7.8-million-ton-per-annum Guaymas export facility. The deal positions Sahara Group as a reliable supplier to LNG to Asia-Pacific markets while supporting global energy security and diversification.

The company continues to scale up its sustainability through investment in gas, renewable energy and nature-based solutions. Its 2024 sustainability report outlined achievements including over four million safe man-hours, 612,498 kg of CO2 emissions avoided through recycling initiatives and community programs impacting more than 75,000 people across 11 countries.

Operating across upstream, midstream, downstream and power, Sahara Group’s portfolio includes oil and gas exploration, trading, fuel distribution, LNG and LPG supply, as well as significant power generation capacity through Sahara Power Group. Its infrastructure and social investment projects further underscore its long-term commitment to Africa’s energy transition.

“Sahara Group’s continued investments in gas infrastructure, LNG supply and sustainability initiatives demonstrate the company’s commitment to shaping a secure and diversified energy future for Africa and beyond. Their integrated approach across the entire energy value chain reflects the type of innovation and long-term vision that is driving new opportunities across global markets,” states Tomás Gerbasio, VP of Commercial and Strategic Engagement, African Energy Chamber.
