Senegal’s Petroleum Ministry to Attend AEW 2025, Joined by Industry Heavyweights

Senegal’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has confirmed its participation at African Energy Week (AEW) 2025: Invest in African Energies, bringing with it a delegation of leading companies that together reflect the country’s growing strength across the energy value chain. Among the Emerald Exhibitors joining the Ministry are Woodside Energy, bp, Réseau Gazier du Sénégal (RGS), Société Africaine de Raffinage (SAR), Petrosen Trading & Services, Petrosen Holdings and Petrosen E&P. Their collective presence highlights not only Senegal’s recent upstream breakthroughs but also its ambitions to build a more integrated and investment-friendly sector.

The momentum surrounding Senegal’s energy industry has been building for several years, with 2025 marking a decisive turning point. The Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project, developed with neighboring Mauritania and partners including bp and Kosmos Energy, delivered first gas in January and launched shipments in April, opening the door to long-term export revenues while providing a foundation for domestic gas-to-power solutions. Meanwhile, following the start-up of the Sangomar offshore oil field operated by Woodside in 2024, planning is underway for Phase 2 of the development, which will expand production capacity. Forecasts for 2025 output have already been revised upwards to nearly 35 million barrels.

Further projects are advancing in parallel. Yakaar-Teranga, a large gas development aimed at meeting domestic demand while supporting future LNG exports, is moving toward a final investment decision. Downstream, Senegal is preparing for a new era of refining and processing, with SAR expected to undergo expansion and modernization to handle the country’s own crude. This strategy aims not only to reduce dependence on imports but also to anchor greater industrial capacity within the country, creating jobs and retaining value.

“Senegal’s energy future is not just about extraction – it’s about building a legacy of shared prosperity, innovation and sustainability. By bringing its leading companies to AEW 2025, the country is demonstrating that it is ready to deepen investment-driven partnerships and shape a world-class industry that benefits both its people and its partners,” states NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber.

By bringing its flagship companies to AEW 2025: Invest in African Energies, Senegal is sending a clear signal to the global investment community. These firms represent every link in the chain: from upstream exploration and production led by Petrosen and Woodside, to international partnerships with bp, to the downstream refining ambitions of SAR and trading and services capacity provided by Petrosen subsidiaries. Their participation reflects a coordinated approach to positioning Senegal as an integrated energy hub that is open for new partnerships and financing across oil, gas and related industries.

AEW: Invest in African Energies is the platform of choice for project operators, financiers, technology providers and government, and has emerged as the official place to sign deals in African energy. Visit www.aecweek.com for more information about this exciting event.
