Soma Oil & Gas Joins AEW 2025 Ahead of Offshore Exploration in Somalia
Soma Oil & Gas – a UK-based explorer focused exclusively on Somalia – has confirmed its participation as a Bronze Partner at this year’s African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies 2025, taking place from September 29 to October 3 in Cape Town. The partnership underscores the company’s commitment to advancing upstream activity in frontier markets, with Somalia’s vast offshore potential in the spotlight.
The company recently outlined a five-year exploration roadmap that positions 2024-2026 as a pivotal phase in its growth. Activities underway include seismic acquisition planning, environmental and social impact assessments, pre-well engineering and drilling preparations, with the first exploration well targeted for 2025. The campaign signals one of the most ambitious efforts yet to unlock Somalia’s potential hydrocarbon resources.
Soma Oil & Gas holds interests in three offshore blocks – 129, 130 and 192 – under production sharing agreements ratified by Somalia’s government. Spanning more than 10,000 km², the acreage is considered highly prospective, with the company’s initial economic modeling suggesting recoverable resources of 21 billion barrels STOIIP (unrisked) - which then translates to 6B + (risked / recoverable). These assets represent a cornerstone of Somalia’s upstream ambitions – development of which could generate significant value for both investors and the national economy.
“Soma Oil & Gas’ strategic roadmap, supported by its exclusive offshore PSAs, marks a major advancement for Somalia’s upstream industry. With solid economic fundamentals and significant offshore data acquisition, the company is well-positioned to target new resources while creating long-term value for both investors and the Somali state,” stated Tomás Gerbasio, VP of Commercial and Strategic Engagement at the African Energy Chamber.
As AEW 2025: Invest in African Energies continues to position itself as the premier platform for African energy investment, the participation of Soma Oil & Gas highlights both the growing role of frontier plays in global supply and the unique opportunity for Somalia to establish itself as a hydrocarbon exploration hotspot.
AEW: Invest in African Energies is the platform of choice for project operators, financiers, technology providers and government, and has emerged as the official place to sign deals in African energy. Visit www.aecweek.com for more information about this exciting event.
