TGS Joins AEW 2026 as Silver Sponsor Amid Ambitious African Seismic Expansion
Energy data and intelligence company TGS will participate as a Silver Sponsor at African Energy Week (AEW) 2026, scheduled for October 12–16 in Cape Town. The sponsorship aligns the seismic data specialist with this year’s theme, “Invest in African Energies: Affordable and Abundant Energy Additions,” as upstream investment discussions intensify across the continent.
TGS’ participation at this year’s event underscores its expanding regional footprint. Their sponsorship is supported by a 30-year operating history in African waters, over $1 billion in cumulative data investment and a multi-client library covering roughly 70% of seismic datasets across the continent, alongside high vessel utilization near 91% in early 2026.
In Angola, TGS recently secured a large high-end 4D streamer contract scheduled to commence acquisition in early July 2026, with an expected duration of approximately eight months. The program, leveraging the Ramform Victory platform and GeoStreamer technology, will provide subsurface imaging services through early 2027, reinforcing visibility across deepwater Kwanza and Lower Congo basin exploration activity.
Separately, TGS has launched its Ultra Profundo 2D seismic survey offshore Angola, recording about 12,600 km of lines over roughly 100 days. Fast-track results are expected in Q3 2026, with final processing due in Q2 2027. The dataset targets salt-affected ultra-deepwater zones to improve pre-salt imaging and reduce exploration uncertainty.
In Equatorial Guinea, TGS has signed a strategic agreement covering acquisition, processing and reprocessing of seismic data, alongside commercialization for international operators. The initiative includes advance GeoStreamer broadband imaging and integrated “MegaStudy” frameworks designed to unify basin-scale datasets across Rio Mundi and Rio del Rey, improving prospect evaluation and reducing drilling risk.
Offshore Mauritania, TGS is advancing a 100,000-km2 MegaSurvey, positioned as Africa’s largest contiguous 3D seismic dataset. Developed by the Ministry of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, the project supported licensing rounds and basin screening, building on regional momentum from developments such as bp and Kosmos Energy’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim gas project.
Collectively, TGS’ African operations span multi-client seismic acquisition, data reprocessing and digital subsurface platforms, extending from Angola and Nigeria to Mauritania, Egypt and East Africa. The company’s “energy addition” strategy combines hydrocarbon exploration support with diversification into digital energy services, including renewable monitoring applications such as solar infrastructure analytics in Egypt.
“TGS’ participation at AEW 2026 underscores Africa’s need for continued upstream investment and data-driven exploration. High-quality seismic datasets remain essential to unlocking frontier basins and reducing exploration risk. Strong partnerships between governments and service providers are critical to accelerating capital deployment and strengthening long-term energy security,” says NJ Ayuk, Exeuctive Chairman, African Energy Chamber.
TGS’ Silver Sponsorship at AEW 2026 reinforces its position as a key geoscience partner across Africa’s offshore basins. With major contracts in Angola, expanding data agreements in Equatorial Guinea and basin-scale surveys in Mauritania, the company enters the conference with strong operational momentum heading into 2027.
