TotalEnergies Strengthens African Commitment as Platinum Sponsor of African Energy Week 2026
French energy major TotalEnergies has reaffirmed its commitment to Africa’s energy future as a Platinum Sponsor of African Energy Week (AEW) 2026, underscoring the continent’s central role in its global growth strategy.
With Africa accounting for roughly half of its operated production and representing its largest area of exploration spend, the company continues to scale up investments across both established and frontier markets.
At the forefront of TotalEnergies’ 2026-2027 investment pipeline is the $20 billion Mozambique LNG project, one of the largest energy developments on the continent. Located in the Rovuma Basin, the project is expected to produce 13 million tons per annum of LNG and unlock up to 65 trillion cubic feet of gas resources, positioning Mozambique as a major global exporter.
In East Africa, the company is advancing Uganda’s Tilenga project alongside the East African Crude Oil Pipeline, a transformative development set to enable first oil production and export via Tanzania’s Tanga port. These projects anchor TotalEnergies’ long-term presence in the region while supporting regional infrastructure integration.
Meanwhile, Southern Africa has emerged as a strategic frontier. In Namibia, the Venus discovery in the Orange Basin is progressing toward a final investment decision in 2026, with potential to become one of the largest offshore oil developments globally. The company is also expanding its exploration footprint through additional acreage and partnerships, reinforcing Namibia’s position as a high-impact growth market.
In West and Central Africa, TotalEnergies continues to optimize legacy assets while investing in new production. In the Republic of Congo, the Moho Nord field remains a cornerstone asset, with a $500 million drilling program launched in 2025 to increase output by approximately 40,000 barrels per day. Across Angola, Algeria and Libya, the company is advancing upstream developments to support production recovery from 2026 onward, including its stake in Angola’s Block 17 and Block 32 assets, gas developments in Algeria in partnership with Sonatrach, and ongoing operations in Libya’s Waha concessions.
Beyond hydrocarbons, TotalEnergies is expanding its integrated power and renewables portfolio across the continent. Recent acquisitions through SN Power have strengthened its hydropower footprint, alongside the 500 MW Al-Sadada solar plant in Libya and the Quilemba solar PV plant in southern Angola, scheduled to come online later this year. This multi-energy strategy reflects a broader commitment to balancing energy access, affordability and sustainability.
TotalEnergies’ sustained investment across diverse markets – from Mozambique and Uganda to Namibia and the Republic of Congo – highlights its long-term confidence in Africa as both an energy supplier and a demand center. Its presence at AEW 2026 is expected to catalyze further deal-making, partnerships and policy dialogue at a time when the continent is accelerating project development and capital mobilization.
“Africa’s energy future depends on committed, long-term investors like TotalEnergies that are willing to take bold positions across the value chain – from frontier exploration to large-scale infrastructure and power generation,” said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber. “Their continued investment demonstrates the scale of opportunity on the continent and the critical role of collaboration in turning resources into sustainable growth.”
As AEW 2026 approaches, TotalEnergies’ Platinum sponsorship signals not only corporate backing for the continent’s premier energy platform, but also a broader endorsement of Africa’s rising role in the global energy landscape.
