Trident Energy Brings Mature Field Rejuvenation Strategy to AEW 2026 as Bronze Sponsor
Trident Energy, a major independent operator specializing in the modernization of mid-life oil and gas assets, will participate as a Bronze Sponsor at the African Energy Week (AEW) 2026 Conference and Exhibition, taking place October 12–16 in Cape Town. The sponsorship comes as the company deepens its presence in Central Africa’s offshore oil sector, reflecting a commitment to expanding the deployment of innovative brownfield rejuvenation solutions continent-wide.
The company operates a robust portfolio of mature offshore fields and holds extensive production acreage, built on targeted redevelopment strategies that reverse natural field declines across sub-Saharan Africa. Its regional work places it at the heart of the shallow and deepwater infrastructure that allows legacy assets to remain economically viable, bringing new life to aging basins.
One of the company’s major strategic updates follows its landmark entry into the Republic of Congo in January 2025. This transformative transaction, finalized through dual agreements with Chevron and TotalEnergies, granted Trident majority ownership and operatorship over the legacy Nkossa and Nsoko II fields, alongside a non-operated interest in the Moho-Bilondo field, adding roughly 30,000 barrels of oil per day to its portfolio.
The Congolese operations also set a major commercial precedent. Trident is currently advancing technical evaluations for the Nkossa Gas Project under broader efforts to extend the life of both assets. The licenses are currently valid until 2040 and 2039, with up to 30 producing wells across the projects.
In Equatorial Guinea, Trident operates Block G, including the foundational Ceiba and Okume fields. Through subsea optimization programs, including a first-of-its-kind 15-well electrical submersible pump conversion project and a $57 million upgrade to the Okume Central processing facility, the operator successful boosted net asset production by 37% from these legacy fields.
Behind the company’s regional expansion is a strong focus on cultivating domestic executive talent. Trident’s localized oilfield training model successfully prepared local engineers for senior leadership roles, including transitioning high-level staff to lead national oil companies, ensuring that mid-life assets provide long-term economic stability and tangible socioeconomic benefits for host nations.
“Trident Energy continues to prove that Africa’s mature fields hold immense, untapped value when managed by operators with technical prevision and local commitment. Their aggressive investments across Equatorial Guinea and Congo demonstrate how mid-cap players can step in, reverse declines and unlock long-term energy security,” says NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman, African Energy Chamber
As a Bronze Sponsor at AEW 2026, Trident Energy is expected to feature in discussions on mature asset management, brownfield optimization and the technologies lowering the environmental footprint of legacy production across Africa.
