Yinson Production Engages Africa Communities and Energy Sector Ahead of AEW 2025 Associate Partnership

Independent FPSO operator Yinson Production is confirmed to participate as an Associate Partner at this year’s African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies 2025 conference, taking place in Cape Town from September 29 to October 3. The company’s involvement highlights its strategic presence in offshore oil and gas, renewable energy and green technology solutions throughout the continent.

Yinson Production Angola recently engaged local communities in Soyo, honoring Sobas, traditional chiefs and local authorities in areas where its FPSO operations are based. The initiative included a symbolic donation of essential goods and reinforced Yinson Production’s commitment to inclusion, cultural respect and meaningful stakeholder engagement. The engagement was led by José Ferreira, Country Manager alongside key local operations staff, reflecting the company’s ongoing effort to build trusted community partnerships.

AEW: Invest in African Energies is the platform of choice for project operators, financiers, technology providers and government, and has emerged as the official place to sign deals in African energy. Visit www.aecweek.com for more information about this exciting event.

In Ghana, Yinson Production West Africa partnered with the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Kwame Nkruma University of Science and Technology to advance greenhouse gas emission assessment and climate mitigation. The five-year Net-Zero Carbon Emissions Project will provide a comprehensive evaluation of emissions in the oil and gas sector, integrate data on an interactive national map and propose actionable pathways to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The partnership demonstrates Yinson Production’s commitment to environmental responsibility, local capacity development and alignment with Ghana’s Local Content Law.

The Agogo FPSO achieved first oil on 29 July 2025, four months ahead of schedule and just 29 months after contract award. It operates under a 15-year lease and operate agreement, with optional extensions of up to five years. With capacity to produce 120,000 barrels per day and store 1.6 million barrels, the FPSO is equipped with advanced emissions-reducing features and is the world’s first in operation to deploy carbon capture technology. These innovations aim to cut emissions by up to 27%, supporting Yinson Production’s target of carbon neutrality by 2030 and net zero by 2050.

Awarded in February 2023, the $5.3 billion Agogo FPSO contract underscores Yinson Production’s growing footprint in Africa’s offshore oil and gas sector. The company’s operations across Angola, Nigeria and Ghana, complemented by expansion into renewable energy and green technologies, reflect its integrated approach to sustainable energy infrastructure development.

“Yinson Production is demonstrating how innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand with Africa’s energy growth. By advancing carbon-reduction technologies, strengthening partnerships with local communities and investing in research and capacity development, the company is delivering long-term value across the continent. These efforts highlight the role of forward-looking operators in driving energy security, economic growth and a just transition,” states Tomás Gerbasio VP of Strategic and Commercial Engagement, African Energy Chamber.
