Bongani Khumalo  is the General Manager for Business Development and Integration at bp Southern Africa, where he leads strategic initiatives focused on commercial growth, integrated supply solutions, and operational collaboration across the company’s downstream and midstream businesses in South Africa.

 

With close to three decades of experience in the energy sector, Khumalo has held several leadership positions across refining, commercial sales, supply chain, and midstream operations. Prior to his current role, he served in positions including General Manager: Midstream, Head of B2B Commercial Sales, and National Sales and Operations Manager at bp. Before joining bp, he worked at Engen in various technical and operational leadership roles, beginning his career as a process engineer.

Khumalo is recognized for his expertise in fuel logistics, integrated energy supply systems, commercial strategy, and infrastructure development. In recent industry commentary, he highlighted the importance of resilient logistics networks, inland storage capacity, and integrated supply planning in maintaining fuel security and supporting South Africa’s downstream chemicals and petrochemicals sectors.

He has also been involved in advancing bp Southern Africa’s broader strategy around cleaner fuels, logistics efficiency, regional connectivity, and lower-carbon energy opportunities as the company transitions toward a more integrated energy model
