Heather McEwan is the Senior Manager for Africa and the Middle East at Verra, a global leader in developing and managing standards that catalyze measurable climate action and sustainable development outcomes. With more than 25 years of experience in the voluntary carbon market (VCM), carbon footprinting and reporting, renewable energy, and sustainability, Heather brings deep technical expertise and strategic insight to her role. She holds multiple industry-recognized certifications, including Certified Carbon Reduction Manager (AEE), Greenhouse Gas Accounting and Reporting (ISO standards), Forest Carbon and Climate Programs, Corporate Sustainability, and Renewable Energy and Energy Auditing & Management (ISO 50001). At Verra, Heather works closely with project developers, investors, governments, and NGOs to strengthen and expand the African carbon market. She delivers innovative solutions through Verra’s flagship standards, including the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard (SD VISta), and the Plastic Waste Reduction Standard. Her mission is to drive large-scale investment in projects that reduce emissions, protect nature, and improve livelihoods, advancing climate action while fostering positive social and environmental impact across the continent. Heather is deeply passionate about addressing climate change and creating lasting benefits for both people and the planet.
