Minister of Energy Republic of Zambia

Hon. Makozo Chikote serves as the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Zambia, where he oversees the country’s energy policy, power sector development, and strategies aimed at strengthening energy security and expanding electricity access nationwide. In this role, he is responsible for guiding Zambia’s efforts to modernize its energy infrastructure, diversify energy sources, and attract investment into both conventional and renewable energy projects.

As Minister, Chikote works closely with key national institutions and industry stakeholders to support the development of Zambia’s power generation capacity—particularly in hydropower, solar, and other renewable energy solutions—while also addressing regional power trade and energy reliability across Southern Africa. His leadership focuses on advancing policies that promote sustainable energy development, improved electricity distribution, and increased participation from the private sector.

Hon. Chikote is recognized for his commitment to strengthening Zambia’s energy sector as a driver of economic growth, industrial development, and regional integration. Through his work, he continues to support initiatives aimed at improving energy access for communities, enhancing infrastructure resilience, and positioning Zambia as an important contributor to the Southern African energy market.
