Honourable Nani Juwara is The Gambia's Minister of Petroleum, Energy, and Mines, appointed in March 2024. Prior to his ministerial role, he had an extensive career at the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC), serving as Deputy Managing Director from 2014 to 2020 and as Managing Director from 2020 to 2024. During his tenure at NAWEC, Juwara oversaw significant projects, including the World Bank-funded Gambia Electricity Restoration and Modernisation Project, the ECOWAS Regional Access Project, and the African Development Bank's Gambia Electricity Access Project. He set ambitious targets, notably aiming for universal access to electricity by 2025. As Minister, Juwara has continued to drive transformative initiatives in The Gambia's energy sector. He led the inauguration of the 225KV transmission line from Brikama to Jabang, enhancing electricity distribution and regional power connectivity. He also implemented the Quarrying Regulations 2024 to ensure responsible mining practices and environmental sustainability. In recognition of his leadership, Juwara received a congressional commendation from the State of South Carolina, USA, in February 2025. Educationally, Juwara holds a Bachelor’s degree from Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Canada, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern Denmark.
