Mamadou Abib Diop is the CEO of the Société Africaine de Raffinage (SAR), appointed in May 2024. An industrial process engineer with international experience, he previously worked in major European industrial firms before returning to Senegal to support national development. Under his leadership, SAR achieved a milestone in February 2025 by refining crude oil from Senegal’s Sangomar field locally for the first time. He is spearheading Plan SAR 2.0, which includes building a second refinery, expanding into petrochemicals, and boosting capacity from 1.5 million to over 5 million tonnes annually by 2030. His vision centers on strengthening Senegal’s energy sovereignty, ensuring domestic supply, and positioning the country as a regional energy hub.
