Mathios Rigas is the founding shareholder and Group CEO of Energean, an independent oil and gas exploration and production company. He has led the company since 2007, growing it from a small operator into a major player in the Mediterranean energy sector. Prior to Energean, he accumulated over 18 years in investment banking and private equity, including roles at Chase Manhattan Bank and Piraeus Bank. Rigas holds a degree in Mining and Metallurgical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and an MSc in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College London. Under his leadership, Energean has made significant acquisitions, expanded production, committed to net-zero emissions by 2050, and earned industry recognition. He currently holds an 8.24% stake in the company and continues to focus on strategic growth, including expanding operations in Africa.
