AMMAT Unpacks Congolese O&G Market Strategy Ahead of AEW 2025
Ahead of the African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies 2025 conference – scheduled for September 29 – October 03 in Cape Town – the African Energy Chamber spoke with Massimiliano Mignacca, Managing Director of AMMAT Global Resources. Mignacca shared insights around the company’s investment strategy in the Republic of Congo and across the continent.
What projects is AMMAT prioritizing to drive the growth of Africa’s energy industry?
AMMAT is a young company that has proposed a different operating model to the Republic of Congo, based on the ability to exploit natural resources in mature, long-established and exploited fields, combining innovation with local experience and skills gained from many decades of experience in the country's industry. Through recent reforms initiated by the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, which have facilitated the entry of new companies into the country's industrial structure, AMMAT has had the opportunity to share this method with the Republic of Congo and with SNPC, the main partner in our activities.
AMMAT's main objectives are to contribute to the growth of the country's overall hydrocarbon production announced by the Minister of Hydrocarbons, namely to reach a production of 500,000 bbls/day, while at the same time implementing a major revamping campaign of the facilities in terms of occupational health and safety in the Zatchi and Loango permits through strong cooperation with local companies and Congolese engineering capabilities.
From the first day AMMAT began its activities in the Republic of Congo, respect for the women and men who work directly and indirectly for AMMAT, and extreme attention to the health and safety of workers have been our pillars and always will be. AMMAT operates with the maximum respect for local authorities and the environment, using local resources as much as possible and contributing to numerous social campaigns for the community.
How do you plan to achieve your 70% production increase target in the Zatchi and Loango fields and what steps are being taken to ensure long-term value creation?
The ability to process and understand historical and geological data is essential to understanding the best actions to take using cutting-edge technologies that now allow us to conduct research with a very high probability of success. This is the activity we have been prioritizing for many months now, not without considerable difficulty due to the lack of reliable historical data. The mistake that is often made is not giving the right value to the potential of exploiting permits that have been producing wealth for the country for many years. Then there is the implementation of plans to reactivate wells, changes to static parameters that are still stuck at 15 years ago, and the possibility of expanding the production area through a drilling program.
What would you highlight as AMMAT’s most significant operational milestones in Africa over the past two years?
In just two years, the AMMAT team has achieved results mainly related to preparing the facilities to accommodate workover activities, implementing a program to revamp all platforms, treatment, separation and reinjection plants for water and gas, and restarting the turbogenerators that produce electricity using the fields' natural resources.
The process of increasing production must necessarily involve the restructuring of all related facilities, including piping, production lines and treatment plants. We have implemented only a small percentage of our development program. Much remains to be done.
What core messages will you bring to AEW: Invest in African Energies, and how does the event support your company’s broader objectives and vision for the region?
We have decided to make our contribution to the most important Energetic Industry initiative on the continent. AMMAT's goal is to learn more about the realities outside the Congo, learn from the experiences of other operators, and, where possible, try to contribute our technical and human resources, gained through more than 60 years of experience in the oil industry. We believe that AEW is a unique and unrepeatable opportunity to share experiences, opportunities and growth. The commitment shown by the organizing institutions and companies and the people who represent them is a fundamental support for the African continent. It is also for this reason that AMMAT, in perfect harmony with its nature, wants to contribute to the growth of the energy sector.
AEW: Invest in African Energies is the platform of choice for project operators, financiers, technology providers and government, and has emerged as the official place to sign deals in African energy. Visit www.aecweek.com for more information about this exciting event.
